The Panasonic RP-HS46E-K Slim Clip-on Earphones are a good choice for anybody who is unable to wear traditional earbuds and in-ear headphones and wants something more portable than regular on-ear and over-the-ear headphones. They are very lightweight, don’t cost too much and the sound quality is on-par with their full-sized cousins.
Clip-on earphones are popular for their small size, comfortable form-factor and very respectable sound quality. You can, of course, get all of this out of regular earbuds, but not all people like the idea of sticking something inside their ears on a daily basis. That’s where headphones like the Panasonic RP-HS46E-K Slim Clip-on come to rescue.
Design and build
Clip-on headphones are perfect for active people who cannot wear earbuds or in-ear headphones. A common reason is problems with ear infections. Some people are, unfortunately, more likely to develop a bad ear infection than others, and in-ear headphones are among the leading culprits of this.
The Panasonic RP-HS46E-K Slim Clip-on Earphones are designed to be very comfortable, sturdy and secure. They stay in place firmly and don’t move around no matter what activity we have performed during our testing. We were surprised to find out that they don’t leak too much sound outside, however, their isolation is negligible. Be prepared to hear everything that goes on around you. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though, as it allows you to communicate with people around you without taking the headphones off.
These headphones have an open construction that lets air pass freely to drivers and to your ears. As a result, you never really get too hot, and the sound is wide and spacious. Despite the relatively small driver size, the sound that comes out of these headphone isn’t by no means inferior to headphones with larger drivers. With the exception of bass, all frequencies are marked with a distinct sound accuracy and precision. The bass lacks punch and impact, but it otherwise is equally as well-mannered as the rest of the sound spectrum.
The cable that leads out of each earcup is very thin and highly resistant to microphonics. The cable ends with a straight plug, which is, in our opinion, the superior solution to the angled one. If you would accidentally tug on the cable, the straight plug would simply disconnect from your smartphone or audio player, rather than damaging the headphones.
What is in the box?
Since these are budget headphones, you shouldn’t expect too much in terms of what you get with the headphones themselves. Indeed, these headphones come completely without any accessories at all. A pouch would definitely be nice, but we understand that budget cuts had to be made somewhere.
