VERDICT

If you’ve been so far using regular earbuds, there are multiple reasons why you should try neckband-style earbuds such as the Mpow Jaws. And for just around $20, there’s really no reason not to give the Mpow Jaws a go and see how they work for you.

To provide better listening comfort and longer battery lives, earbud manufacturers experiment with different designs. Popularized by the LG Tone Pro earbuds, the neckband-style earbud design has been adopted by many other major players in the industry, and Mpow is now one of them. The Mpow Jaws neckband earbuds are affordable, wireless, and come with a promise of a long battery life and excellent audio quality. But, as we all know, an outstanding listening experience can’t be achieved by promises alone.

Design and Build

The design of the Mpow Jaws earbuds is inspired by the look of the shark, at least the neckband part is. The black matte finish has a very fine texture, giving the earbuds a unique premium feel that you most likely wouldn’t expect from a pair of earbuds in this price range.

The neckband is made from silicone, which is how Mpow has been able to reduce the weight of the earbuds by 60 percent compared to other earbuds with the same design. At just 1.2 ounces, it’s really easy to forget both about the neckband around your neck and also about the earbuds in your ears.

Speaking of the earbuds, we’ve found their ergonomic shape to be very comfortable, allowing us to listen for multiple hours without any discomfort. Should the stock eartips be uncomfortable for you, you can replace them with one of several other pairs that come included with the Mpow Jaws earbuds.

The neckband design has two main advantages over traditional earbuds: it produces less pulling force on the ears, and it makes it very easy for earbud manufacturers to include powerful batteries. The battery inside the Mpow Jaws can power the earbuds for up to 13 hours of continuous listening or 350 hours of standby. When you want to charge it, it takes just 3 hours before the battery goes from 0 percent to 100 percent.

Sound Quality

Many people go for neckband earbuds because they are known to offer superior call quality and excellent noise reduction. We’re happy to report that the Mpow Jaws live up to the image of neckband earbuds, offering high-definition audio quality for hands-free phone calls and above-average noise reduction thanks to the cVc noise cancelling technology from Qualcomm.

The earbuds connect via the Bluetooth 4.1 wireless transmission technology and work even when you’re up to 10 meters away from your device. They can be paired with multiple devices at the same time. Some devices, such as the iPhone 7, display the remaining battery capacity of the earbuds in the status bar.

As for the sound quality, it’s better than what we would normally expect from around $20 earbuds. Bass, especially, can surprise with its bold, accurate, and convincing delivery. Overall, the sound coming from the earbuds is accurate and enjoyable.

What’s in the Box?

The Mpow Jaws come with a USB cable for charging from a computer or a wall adapter as well as with several pair of replaceable eartips.
