VERDICT

MEE Audio have been around long enough to know what customers want from Bluetooth headphones. The Runaway headphones have an excellent sound quality, are supremely comfortable, and their long battery life makes them excellent for daily use and commuting. You can also choose between the regular version and one with touch controls. We believe that the regular version is better for sports, but the touch control version is undeniably cool.

According to MEE Audio, “The Runaway is a revolution in headphones, utilizing bold colors, sleek design, and Bluetooth brilliance to break the monotony of the day-to-day and transform the music listening experience from ordinary to extraordinary.” Exacting marketing statement, right? But the real question is, of course, how do they sound. Our review will tell you whether the Runaway are just something more than just flashy promises and cool design.

Design and Build Quality

The Runaway Bluetooth headphones are all about wild, vivid colors. Every available color combination looks amazing and we can’t imagine how anyone could have any problems finding one that matches the person’s taste.

As on-ear headphones, don’t be surprised by the small size and weight of these headphones. You will appreciate their convenient form-factor when you decide to take them with you on your daily commute. MEE used soft padding that provides good support and excellent comfort.

The build quality is great, even though the headphones are constructed entirely from plastic materials. You can expect around 15 hours of talk and music playback time on a single charge. If you ever run out of juice in the middle of nowhere, you can use the included audio cable to listen just like you would with regular wired headphones.

Sound Quality

The 40mm drivers with proprietary diaphragm are designed to deliver rich and dynamic sound with enhanced deep bass and great clarity. While we usually don’t like artificially enhanced bass, we have to say that what MEE managed to pull off with the Runaway deserves praise.

These low end of these headphones sounds absolutely fantastic and made us search for more bass-heavy music. It extends incredibly deep, is well-articulated, and never overshadows lower mids. Highs sometimes seem cut off, but you have to listen very carefully and purposefully to notice it. It’s likely that you will be too busy enjoying the excellent bass to notice that cymbals don’t have the same spark as they do when you listen to them using $300+ Sennheiser headphones.

It’s also worth mentioning that phone calls sound very good. The headphones keep all outside noise, wind, and other potentially disturbing elements at bay.
