VERDICT
The G633 from Logitech surpassed our expectations. We were fully prepared for a gimmicky headset that is more show than go. In reality, all mechanical aspects of these headphones are handled perfectly. The design isn’t for everybody, but it doesn’t need to be. It will appeal to hardcore gamers who want to pimp their battlestation and light it up with matching RGB lights.
The Logitech G33 Artemis Spectrum is a new flagship headset from a company with years of experience when it comes to manufacturing gaming accessories and peripherals. The inclusion of RGB lighting is just one of several important features that this headset offers.
Design and build
Logitech went all in when they were designing these headphones. The most dominant feature is, of course, the RGB lighting, which lets you customize the look of the headphones and program different colors or effects via Logitech’s software center. You also have the option to synchronize it with the color of your Logitech RGB keyboard. The software could use an update or two, as it has a few quirky bugs.
The earcups feature removable custom tags, volume control wheel, and the G-Keys. The placement of the keys is rather unorthodox, but once you get used to it, it will feel natural. Using the left thumb to adjust the volume is very convenient and helps you stay focused on your game.
The G633 has thick foam earpads, which provide a good amount of space between your head and the pair of Pro-G audio drivers. The drivers were designed to work with G633’s 7.1 Dolby or DTS Headphone:X Surround Sound to deliver incredible sound fidelity.
A quality microphone is a very important part of any respectable gaming headset. Logitech is well-aware of this, and the included microphone is retractable and can be bent to adjust how close it is to your mouth. It can be muted either by adjusting the system volume or by pressing the button on the headset. There is a small LED indicator light that turns on or off as you adjust the volume. It’s just barely visible when you look down, and it gives a handy way how to check if your teammates can hear you.
Sound quality
Considering the flashy design of these headphones, we were honestly expecting to hear a roaring bass; however, that’s not the case with the Logitech G633 Artemis Spectrum RGB 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset. The bass response is relatively weak, and it doesn’t really stand out from the rest of the sound spectrum.
On the other hand, mids and trebles are clear, and they make most environmental effects stand out from other sounds. The large soundstage only adds to this; making these headphones perfect for online first person shooters. However, you will probably want to use the software center to tweak the bass a little bit to get a better single player experience.
