VERDICT
AKEDRE’s delivery leaves a lot to be desired. The somewhat short battery life is not a big surprise; many headphones in this price range claim unrealistically long battery life but fail to deliver on their promises. Unfortunately, the fact that the AKEDRE Sports Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds have problems staying securely in place makes them, essentially, unfit for their target audience. All customers should think twice before ordering these earbuds online without any prior testing.
The AKEDRE S-501 Sports Bluetooth Earbuds are quite an attractive package: not only are these Bluetooth earphones stylish and modern-looking, but they were also designed to meet strict requirements of all active individuals who enjoy high-fidelity music listening while cycling, jogging, or hiking.
Design and build quality
The simple black design with a small, elegant logo printed on each earbud looks discreet yet enticing at the same time. Those who would like something that has a potential to get a bit more attention from random strangers can go for the gold, green, or white version.
The AKEDRE S-501 earbuds have an integrated pair of around-the-ear hooks that should, at least in theory, provide superior fit and maximum comfort. Unfortunately, this isn’t really the case, and the earbuds have the tendency to fall out. Of course, this will highly vary from person to person, but the problem is there.
Another negative thing that we absolutely have to mention is the battery life. The manufacturer advertises up to 6 hours of battery life, but the earbuds can last only around 3 hours on a full charge. Still, that’s enough to get you through the day. A good news is that charging is fast, so you can quickly get back to your music if you ever run out of juice.
Last but not least, we were pleasantly surprised how easy and fast the pairing is. All you need to is hold down the multifunctional button after turning the headphones on and go to your smartphone’s Bluetooth settings, where you need to select the earbuds and wait a few seconds until the connection is established.
Sound quality
For a pair of Bluetooth sports earbuds that cost only around $20, the AKEDRE S-501 Earbuds perform very well. Their sound is characterized by a deep bass end that extends much lower than most other similar headphones on the market and is free from distortion. AKEDRE calls their technology “HD1080P stereo”, which is nothing more than a horrible attempt at clever marketing. We would be very surprised if the earbuds contained anything else besides regular off-the-shelf OEM components. However, it’s the results that really count.
The only thing you should be aware of is the lower volume. Even when you crack it up all the way, you may still not get nowhere near eardrum-piercing loudness that you may get out of other headphones. How much of a problem will vary from song to song.
What’s in the box?
These Bluetooth earbuds come only with replaceable eartips and a brief, hard-to-understand manual.
